HUMMINGDROIDS - Stuart Brown/Scott Amendola
For me, one of the most positive things to have come out of recent world events has been having more free time to connect and collaborate with artists in other parts of the world. Hummingdroids is a new trans-Atlantic double drummer interaction which I created remotely with Scott Amendola in San Francisco, U.S.A., combining improvised drumming and live effects. So perhaps you could say an improvising drum duo in unreal time! Check out Hummingdroids debut track below. The duo are currently working on a full album for release in 2021.
MNDMTH: Convergence (Reactive Audio Visual Drum Triggering)
My new sonic-visual collaboration with new media artist, Stephen Curtis premiered on 21st February 2020 at The Edinburgh Festival of Sound and is the culmination of work I've been developing as part of Sound and Music's New Voices composers development programme. The project, mixing elements of experimental music and generative visuals, utilises improvised percussion as a means to generate and “paint” unique sound and graphical explorations. Below is a short video feature about the project.
Stuart Brown is a 2018-2020 Sound and Music "New Voices" Composer
I'm currently one of 15 composers taking part in Sound and Music's New Voices composers development programme. For this I've been developing an approach to doing solo AV performances from the drums with all sound and visual elements played/triggered in real time under the name MNDMTH.
